Growing Without Becoming Someone Else

Maybe change isn’t always becoming a different person.
Sometimes it’s becoming less held back
by the person we used to be.
Still needing quiet.
Still preferring a little less.
Still feeling more at ease in smaller spaces.
But not letting those preferences decide
what gets experienced anymore.
There is something freeing about realizing:
we can still be ourselves
without having to organize our whole lives
around what feels most comfortable.
Maybe that’s another kind of growing.
